I try to make my favorite green juice recipe once a week, it’s a nice treat that Andie and I can enjoy together. She loves a few gulps of this green stuff. The ingredients are simple: parsley, cucumber, green apple, lime and a pinch of salt – you don’t need to juice the salt, obviously lol.
Here are some of the reasons why this juice is so great:
- High in magnesium
- High in potassium
- Very high in vitamin A (209% D/V)
- Very high in vitamin B6
- Very high in vitamin C (336% D/V)
Before you decide to run off on a special trip to the grocery store to buy these items and these items alone. Take a breath and simmer down. I am not making any promises. This juice will not make you lose 10 pounds. This juice will not immediately improve your complexion or cure your sugar addiction. You may be asking yourself, ugh then why should I even try????
You should try because everyone needs extra vitamins and minerals in the form of real food. Since you won’t be chomping down on two whole bunches of parsley in one sitting, the next best thing is juicing them! Adding the green apple gives this green juice a little sweetness and the lime a little tang that’s balanced out by the sea salt. The cucumber has a lot of water and is high in potassium.
Over time, adding a green juice here and there can add valuable nutrients that your body needs. I want to be clear this is not a magic bullet. I know juice cleanses or juice detoxes can be very appealing with their claims of fast weight loss and other vague health benefits. What you need is long term health and wellness which can be achieved by reducing highly processed foods from your diet and replacing them with nutrient dense foods like those in my recipes 😉
..but back to juicing.
I think a green juice is a great addition to a healthy diet. It is not a cure all and can actually have negative effects is used as a replacement meal or as a multiple day cleanse or detox. I speak from experience. I was having a big green juice for breakfast everyday for a few months about 4 years ago when I first bought my juicer. This caused a number of issues that at the time I didn’t think were a problem, now I know better.
Juicing should not cause the following issues:
- digestive distress (i.e. diarrhea, gas, bloating)
- excessive hunger
- unstable blood sugar levels
Adding a green juice to your day should make you feel better, not worse.
This is the Omega juicer I own. You can get it on amazon by clicking this little link HERE, or you could get it at Bed Bath and Beyond and use one of those 20% coupons they offer from time to time to get an even better deal. With a price tag in the low $200’s, this juicer is an investment but it’s sturdy and will last a long time, unlike that playstation you have to replace every 3 years….what do those things cost again?
….and finally here is the recipe, enjoy!
My Favorite Green Juice Recipe
- 2 bunches of parsley
- 1 medium cucumber
- 1 green apple
- 1 lime
- a pinch of sea salt (I use this salt HERE)
Cut everything up to fit your juicer and juice away. Add sea salt to juice at the end and compost the pulp!
